Short bio
Stefano Balbi is an Ikerbasque Research Associate at the Basque Centre for Climate Change (BC3), specializing in sustainability science, social-ecological systems, agent-based modeling, and integrated modeling. His research centers on modeling coupled human-natural systems under global environmental change, focusing on topics such as natural capital, disaster risk, tourism impacts, and population mobility. To tackle these challenges, he employs advanced methodologies including agent-based modeling, social network analysis, multi-criteria decision analysis, and machine learning. Since 2013, he has played a key role in managing and developing the ARIES (ARtificial Intelligence for Environment & Sustainability) project and the k.LAB technology, which uses AI and semantic integration to connect independently produced data and models.
